What The ****?! Swearing Can Improve Your Workout Performance?
Workout

Yep, you read that right. No bull**** here, we're getting straight to the point.
A 2024 review showed that swearing might actually boost your workout performance. In the study, participants were told to shout out a curse word, the kind you'd scream after stubbing your toe or smacking your head. Unsurprisingly, the top picks were the ol’ reliable F-bomb and... something zuPOO could help with.
So what happened?
The results found in Table 1 showed:
-
Increased in anaerobic power by 4.5%
-
Increased Grip strength by 8%
-
Improved Wall sit time by 22%
-
Improved Push-ups by 15%
-
Improved Plank time by 12%
Why does this happen?
The exact reason is still a bit of a mystery, but the leading theories include increased pain tolerance and a bit of psychological detachment from the discomfort of exercise. Basically, swearing might trick your brain into pushing harder for longer.
Now, we’re not saying you should start yelling the F-word at your gym’s yoga class. But if you’re chasing a new PR, letting a few choice words fly (under your breath) is a free tip you can implement immediately that might just give you that extra edge.
So next time your workout sucks? Swear it out.
