How the Ice Age Helped UMZU Create Thyrite

Early Chinese medical writings in approximately 3,600 B.C. were the first to record decreases in goiter size upon ingestion of seaweed and burnt sea sponge. Why is this important? These early Chinese medical practitioners had discovered the importance of iodine without even knowing it.

THE HISTORY

Iodine & The Ice Age

Iodine is present in the upper crust of the Earth as a trace element.

During the Ice Age, the creation of glaciers and subsequent flooding from the melting of these glaciers caused a variable geographic distribution of iodine to coastal areas.

Today, the most common sources of dietary iodine are seaweed and other seafood.

THE WHY

Seaweed Supplementation

Furthermore, the body requires iodine to produce thyroid hormone. If you do not have enough iodine in your diet, the thyroid gland gets larger to try to capture all of the iodine it can, so that it can make the right amount of thyroid hormone, potentially resulting in a goiter.

So by recommending seaweed supplementation, these early Chinese medical practitioners were able to give their patients the iodine their thyroids needed to produce more thyroid hormone, resulting in a reduction of goiter size.

THE RE-DISCOVERY

How We Re-discovered Iodine

Iodine was rediscovered in 1811 by Bernard Courtois, a French chemist while extracting sodium salts necessary for the manufacture of gunpowder. He observed an unusual purple vapor arising from seaweed ash treated with sulphuric acid.

In 1813, the first paper presenting the new element, iodine was published. The name iodine actually comes from the Greek word ioeides, translated as “violet-colored” after the aforementioned purple vapor.

In 1852, another French chemist named Adolphe Chatin was the first to publish a hypothesis of population iodine deficiency associated with endemic goiter. This was confirmed by Eugene Baumann, who, in 1896, reported the discovery of iodine within the thyroid gland.

This is exactly why we include Kelp Extract in our thyroid supplement - Thyrite. Thanks to the Ice Age, kelp extract is a rich source of Iodine - a mineral required for the production of thyroid hormone.

I wanted to write this review for anyone on the fence about purchasing this item! I was experiencing weight gain, loss of hair (chunks falling out), tiredness and what felt like an internal body itch, I lost sleep at night, etc. after a month on Thyrite I see a huge difference. I’ve lost weight* (while working out and tweaking my diet), my hair is NO LONGER falling out and I have no more internal itch.
